Kara Welcomes A New Team Member!

We are extremely excited to welcome Michelle Burgess to the Kara Accountants’ team as of the beginning of 2019.

We tasked Michelle with a few questions in order to introduce her to our clients and for us to get to know her a little better!

What is your industry background before coming to Kara? I started training via AAT with Westlake Clark quite a few years ago. I progressed from there to work in finance for HSBC, trading stocks and shares and dealing with investments, while at the same time continuing to complete the AAT qualification.

Following this, I moved on to work for a local insurance broker handling their accounts, including completion of FCA returns, running payroll, setting up pension schedules and dealing with various aspects of compliance requirements.

I spent my spare time studying and completing my ACCA qualification and spent a number of years working for myself doing bookkeeping and accounts preparation, to fund my qualifications.

What are your hobbies outside of work? I really enjoy horse riding and have previously competed up to county level. I am lucky enough to have my own horse and be able to ride. However, the riding has taken a temporary back seat as I now have two young children, Jessica and Ben.

I also love to travel and in my younger days spent two separate periods of 18 months each travelling and working abroad. I have visited Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.

Do you live locally or travel in to work? I live in the local area which is great for work and family life.

What would you hope to achieve in 2019? I am really looking forward to working and getting stuck in with Kara as it has been my goal for a long time to continue my career within an accountants – so far I’m loving it!

With regards to outside of work, I would love to start competing again with my horse – but we’ll see how the future lies with that one and the children!

Tell us one interesting fact about yourself! I am actually an advanced PADI scuba diver and have been extremely lucky to have dived in many places across the globe.
